Diaries of a Greens Keeper

Chapter One: The Dirt Wall

A lot of seemingly funny stuff happens to me in my efforts to maintain a respectable golf course. For the most part these occurrences are random and not actually funny when they happen, but once the dust settles we usually get a good laugh out of it.

Since a golf course is open 7 days a week that means I get to work seven days a week. My boss and I rotate every other weekend. Saturdays and Sundays are usually short work days. We mow greens, change cups, rake bunkers and get out’a there. We never stay for more than a few hours, unless there is an emergency or something of the sort.

It was my weekend to work and as I was driving down the cart path headed for home when I came across this…

So much for a lazy Saturday. I ended up staying an extra three hours to get this mess cleaned up. I seems like if some thing bad can happen, it will happen the weekend I’m working or it will happen on a Friday afternoon. I love Mondays.

Ugh, that looks like a lot of work!! Do you have a "digger" to help clean up with? Harrison would be your best pal if he could ride in a digger with you.

bummer...I guess there's nothing like a big pile of rocks to ruin your saturday. If that were me I would probably just rope it off with some construction tape, put a "Road work ahead" sign up, and tell people to go around.

so how did you solve the problem?...
